Concord Coach on Display in Warner

I have attended this long-standing annual autumn event for the past couple of years with a friend. The ride to her home on a back road with trees, ablaze, is a great prelude to our day at the festival. She lives on the old road to Warner NH and from her home we continue along the back road until we arrive in the pretty little village of Warner.

We park and walk up and down the main street, deciding where to begin. Steam still rises from leaf-strewn yards as the sun rises above roof lines and commences to kiss warmth into the air. Last year, a genuine restored Concord Coach was on display courtesy of the then Concord Coach Society now called the Abbot-Downing Historical Society. Several informed members were on hand to answer questions. That was unexpected and very interesting.

Shops in Downtown Warner NH

Usually, a barn or two in town are open with a barn sale ongoing. The town hall is full of vendors of every conceivable crafting description. Outside booths and tents contain many more handcrafts, from spinning and weaving to handmade candles and soaps. Pottery, herbal blends and jewelry abound. Each vendor has a unique and high quality product. I have come to rely on the Foliage Festival for some special holiday gifts.

Many merchants in the area offer specials on this day and join in the festive atmosphere. Warner is such a quintessential New England village. Spending a fall day there is a great way to enjoy the season.

This year the 64th annual Warner Fall Foliage Festival is planned for October 7th, 8th and 9th. Hope to see you there!
